"the perfect hunt. No bugs,
no getting up at 4 a.m., and
plenty to do after the hunt."

Trophy hunter, Rich, with his
2007 whitetail buck.
Most of our whitetail deer hunting is done on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in
Gregory and Tripp counties.  Rifle season starts about the 10th of November and
runs for 16 days - right during the peak of rut.  The size of the deer usually runs
from 120 to 140 inches, with a few larger ones taken each year.  We hunt a lot of
canyons and some shots can be pretty long.  Don't be afraid to practice and be
prepared for shots of 250 to 400 yards.
Archery Whitetail Hunting
We book a few archery hunts every year.  We don't kill giants, but we do kill some
very nice bucks.  The season opens the 3rd weekend in September.  This is a good
hunt to combine with pheasant hunt.
Muzzleloader Deer Hunting (Whitetail & Mule Deer)
Our muzzleloader deer hunts take place on the Indian land, as well.  The season is
for 2 weeks in mid-October and then again for 2 weeks in mid-December.  This is a
very fun hunt and we have had very good luck over the past 4 years, killing some
very nice bucks.
You are allowed to use scopes on our muzzleloader hunts.  The weather in October
is usually warmer, so we do a lot of pushing to get the deer moving.  In December
we pray for snow.
Whitetail Deer Hunting in South Dakota
South Dakota Mule Deer Hunting
We have a lot of whitetail hunters who do a pheasant and deer combination hunt.
This is a great hunt, as it occupies the whole day.  One of our hunters describes it as
"the Disneyland for adults."  You hunt deer in the morning until 11 a.m. or so, then
you grab your shotgun and go bird hunting until 3 or 4 in the afternoon.  Then, it's
back for the evening whitetail hunt.  You really get your money's worth on this hunt.
The cost is $2600 for 5 days, which is like getting 5 days of pheasant hunting for an
extra $600, or 5 days of deer hunting for an extra $600.
Our mule deer hunting is done in the northwest corner of the state, in Harding County (AKA...God's Country).  The license is
a little more expensive, as you will need the West River Special Buck tag ($500).  This tag is drawn in April, so please let us
know ASAP if interested in this hunt.
If you would like to bowhunt mule deer, you are more than welcome to combine it with an archery antelope hunt.  These
hunts are limited, so please inquire early.
